Solution:

I opted for a fresh, recognisable stamp style inspired by how the Queen is depicted in film and TV.

I reflected the authentic Royal Mail stamp colours rather than selecting my own. I created stamps using sketches of actresses who have portrayed the Queen in film and television.

For the infographic title, I selected American Typewriter, as its vintage style matched my intended look of the front of an envelope.

Approach:

To visually capture her journey, I chose postage stamps as a universally recognised medium. Instead of the traditional Royal Mail imagery of the queen’s silhouette.

To enhance authenticity, I researched UK stamps and franks. Using a laser cutter to cut the design into MDF so I could use varying levels of ink to reflect the natural imperfections of real franks on envelopes.

For the postage stamps, I designed them in Illustrator, printed, cut, and scanned them, then used Photoshop to add realistic touches like my fingerprints, paper creases, and dirt, giving a convincingly used appearance.

Overview:

The brief was to create an A1 illustrated infographic poster to visually represent and celebrate the Queen ‘s Platinum Jubilee. The Queen’s reign lasted over 70 years, evolving from youth to old age.
