Solution:
The final product created was a three-dimensional wayfinder sign specifically designed for use in a zoo as a signpost.
It centred around a playful representation of several animals commonly found at our local zoo, with the main feature being a giraffe and other favourite animals. The design was finished in bold acrylic paint colours, aiming to engage and appeal to younger visitors.
This design could be further used to create various merchandise items, such as ornaments that children could display in their bedrooms as decorative pieces.
Approach:
The design needed careful consideration of both the materials available and the methods of production best suited to the sign’s intended purpose and overall aesthetic.
The primary target audience for the sign was children, as I wanted the design to possess enough charm and appeal to function as a brand element for the zoo.
The design was initially sketched with the animals which would be included. The final animal outlines were laser cut into mdf, then using the animals silhouettes as a base I made the name of the animals fit the shape.
Overview:
To produce a 3-Dimensional Typographic Wayfinder sign that informs the viewer about a particular situation they have encountered.
